Sustainable Sourcing

Empowering farmers through sustainable exports of Indonesia’s unique agricultural products and rich biodiversity.

Sustainability

At Lazzaro, sustainability is not an initiative — it is the foundation of how we source, craft, and share our coffee. Every bean begins its journey in the hands of Indonesia’s smallholder farmers, whose knowledge, land, and quiet devotion shape the flavours we celebrate. We honour that journey by ensuring our practices support the people and environments that make our coffee possible.

Sourced with respect. Crafted with intention.

Sourcing from Smallholder Farmers

Across the archipelago — from the volcanic slopes of Kintamani to the highland forests of Flores — we partner with independent farmers who cultivate coffee on small, family-owned plots. Many rely on traditional, low-impact methods passed down through generations: shade-grown cultivation, natural fertilisers, and selective hand-picking.

Sustainability extends beyond how our coffee is grown. We consider every point along the journey — processing, transport, roasting, and the materials that reach your hands.

Designed with intention — guided by purpose, people, and the planet.

Our packaging is designed to honour both the coffee inside and the world it comes from. Lazzaro uses biodegradable, plant-based materials wherever possible — ensuring that every bag leaves behind as little trace as possible.

We focus on:
Compostable packaging films made from renewable resources
Minimalist, low-ink designs that reduce production impact
Materials that naturally break down, not linger in landfills
• Packaging that protects freshness without sacrificing sustainability

At Lazzaro, we believe that design and responsibility can coexist — beautifully, quietly, and thoughtfully.

For the Future of Coffee

Indonesia’s landscapes and communities are the heart of our craft. By investing in sustainable practices today, we help ensure that future generations — growers and drinkers alike — can continue to experience the richness of these origins.

Behind every cup of Lazzaro coffee is the care, knowledge, and dedication of smallholder farmers across Indonesia. From the volcanic slopes of Bali to the highlands of Flores and Argopuro, these growers tend their land with patience, skill, and respect for nature.

Every bean they nurture reflects generations of expertise, a deep connection to the soil, and a commitment to sustainable, responsible farming. Their meticulous work — from hand-picking ripe cherries to managing shade-grown plots — ensures that every roast delivers the rich flavors and refined experience you enjoy in your cup.

Putu from Bali, Slamet from Argopuro, and Maria from Flores — each brings generations of knowledge, care, and dedication to their craft. From tending the soil to hand-picking ripe cherries, their meticulous work transforms smallholder farms into the vibrant, nuanced coffee that arrives in your cup. Every sip reflects their skill, patience, and commitment to both the land and the experience of coffee itself.
